Helplines are required to have a minimum of two appropriately skilled staff to deliver training assessment and verification of this programme. A minimum of one appropriately skilled member of staff to cover the roles of trainer, assessor and tutor plus a separate competent member of staff to cover the role of internal verifier.

Who is it for?
In order to become a tutor/assessor/trainer on the mhhp accredited training programme you need to attend an induction course. This training is available to mhhp members and non-members. It is for those people recruited within an equal opportunities framework to train helpline workers and who want to be able to roll out the accredited training programme at their helpline.
In order to be considered for the induction training helplines must demonstrate a commitment to registering learners within 12 weeks of the induction.
What is it about?
This course is not about how to be a trainer. There is no credit or qualification attached to completion. It is specifically designed for those involved in delivery and assessment of the mhhp accredited training programme. The course aims to develop awareness of the programme itself, the unit structure, content and materials available for learners and tutor/assessor/trainers and to ensure that participants are familiar with key aspects of accreditation as it applies to the tutor/assessor/trainer role at the helpline.
By the end of the course, participants should be able to:
- Identify the programme units and content of the Level 2 Certificate for Mental Health Helpline Workers training programme.
- Use the programme support materials available.
- Know the roles of the tutor, assessor, trainer, internal verifier and external verifier for an accredited programme.
- Know and apply the policy requirements for delivering the accredited training.
- Know the implications of quality assurance including procedures for recording evidence and programme review.
- Know further training options available from City & Guilds for key staff delivering an accredited programme.Plan for delivery in their own helpline/organisation.
- Know the Quality Assurance co-ordination role of mhhp.
