The Queen’s speech outlined the legislative agenda for the coming Parliament. Most notable for the sector were bills on education, decentralisation, health, government spending and welfare reform. The Queen made explicit reference to the sector, saying “the role of social enterprises, charities and co-operatives in our public services will be enhanced.”
On 24 May, the Government outlined its approach to making £6.2bn worth of public spending cuts to start tackling the deficit. ACEVO is closely monitoring the situation and we are looking into how best we can support our members as public spending cuts impact the sector. George Osborne and Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander have also announced details of how the next Spending Review will be conducted.
The Labour Party has also unveiled its front bench line up.
