Peer Support: Lived Experience Leading the Way
Wednesday, 11 August 2010
New research report to be launched on Thursday 30 September 2010 in London.
Peer support is not a new phenomenon. There is a long and distinguished history of people with experience of mental distress supporting one another both individually and in groups or organisations. Together, commissioned a report, that in partnership with The University of Nottingham, looks at Peer Support, focusing on the key elements of what makes a successful programme and providing evidence of the direct benefit to users, communities, funders and commissioners. The report also explores relevant challenges and makes valuable recommendations for the future.
Key speakers at the event will be:
- Anne Beales MBE, Director of Service User Involvement, Together
- Rachel Perkins OBE, Director of Quality Assurance and User/Carer Experience, South West London and St George's Mental Health NHS Trust, Vice Chair of Rethink, a member of the Department of Work and Pensions Disability Employment Advisory Committee (DEAC)
- International Speaker, Renowned authority on Peer Support (TBC)
- David Crepaz-Keay, Head of Empowerment and Inclusion, The Mental Health Foundation
- Sandra Griffiths, Head of Mellow
The report will be available on the mhhp website after the event.
