About the course
The Level 2 Certificate for Mental Health Helpline Workers provides a unique opportunity for organisations and helplines to invest in relevant quality training specifically designed by, but not exclusively for, helpline workers.
The programme has been designed to make the learning experience as enjoyable as possible. Using both evidence based learning in the workplace, assignments and study days learners develop awareness and practical skills in a range of relevant subject areas including: Listening and Communication, Confidentiality and Boundaries, Legal and Ethical framework, Diversity and Equality, Understanding Mental Health problems, Services and Routes to Mental Health services, Responding to Challenging calls, Service Users Perspective and Recovery models (medical v social).
There are 9 units consisting of 5 core competencies required to work on a helpline plus 4 optional units providing flexibility and choice. More information about the units and rules of combination is contained in the programme brochure.
The units have all been mapped to the Health and Social Care National Occupational Standards and also to the Department of Health's Essential Shared Capabilities for the mental health workforce.
